The chance that the iPod Classic is updated to 220GB is zero. Apple has no plans to ever update a hard drive based non-touch portable device (they would not waste their time), and they've shown even less interest in increasing the capacity of any device beyond even 64GB flash.
Tony
You wanna know WHY they haven't gone past 64GB Flash? It's too damn expensive still....Sucks they can't bump the iPhone up to 64GB, although there are rumors to a 64GB iPhone5....we can only hope

For some time, Handbrake didn't use more than two cores - owners of Quad G5s reported CPU usage of exactly 50 percent, then someone changed it and Quad G5s reported 100 percent CPU usage.
What we don't know: Was the code changed to use up to four processors, or as many processors as are available? Developers are usually very unwilling to ship code that they haven't been able to try out, so expect a version using eight cores about two days after the developers have access to an eight core machine.
In the case of Handbrake, encoding to MPEG4 seems already limited by the speed of the DVD drive; you can't encode faster than you can read from the DVD. H.264 is still limited by processor speed. Using eight cores is not too difficult; for example, if you encode 60 minutes of video, just give 7 1/2 minutes to each core.
Applications should be, and most likely are written to take advantage of available resources. A developer should be writing applications to take advantage of 8-cores already, they don't need an 8-core machine to do so.

I hope Apple will get this done this week. I see "when C2D lappy come out" threads repeatedly (mostly by new members). With the update, we will change that line of thread into the buyer's remorse threads from the people who bought CoreDuo MBP. That would be good for a change.

Usually true, but with FB-DIMMs the 256MB and 512MB only use one of the onboard buffer channels (as in buffer channels on the module itself). Humm ... never ran across any documentation to that effect. You have an online reference? (I believe you, just like having reference information)

Finally some Mac Mini rumours :D ..... lets hope this turns out to be correct. I wonder what specs we'll see in the next update, Surley no more Core Solo?
The article mentions Core 2 Duo, but I bet they stick with Core Duo. everything else will be the same.

Maybe they are rare where you live. In the UK and the rest of Europe they are more common that automatics.
Yep - I'm not sure that I have ever even been in an automatic!

^yeah almost seems unfair to ppl that want to compete but dont have access to high end hardware. i guess if you look at it from an aggregate standpoint then low point crunchers make a bit of a diff.
the amount of power sucked from the wall per unit would be WAY less i would imagine. from an environmental standpoint it wouldnt make sense

I've also noticed that Spotlight has been pretty screwed up. First off it's been indexing every other day which is unnecessary, and while it's indexing it will say ridiculous things like "35 hours remaining" with it finishing soon after.
I think they mean minutes.

either way, its both a win-win situation
a) you dont need 8 cores?? see the 4 cores Mac pro goes down in retail price
b) you want 8 cores? Great !! here it is
case close.
An unlikely scenario. Don't expect any price drops on mac pros for a long time after clovertown chips are in them.

I feel justified that this is the main reason we never heard ANY thing about Mac OS X at the keynote AND the WWDC (as far as I know), and each new update seems to be just fixes and security updates. So, I think apple is working on iOS X, or what ever the touch screen Mac OS is.
This is my take on Apple: (semi-off-topic warning)
The way I see it, is that Apple is the technology company of the future. I mean, look at all these other smart phone makers; (exceptions being Google and HTC) they're still "stuck" in the 20th century. With our rapid advancement of technology, Apple's current technology should have been out 3 to 5 years ago. IMO, Apple is just playing "catch up" on a human scale, aka the iPhone 4 is the technology that should have been releasing 3 to 5 years ago.

Leopard for G3s, please.
An iMac with an adjustable screen height, with dual C2D chips.
A Macbook with a proper keys on the board.
A new low end range of desktops and notebooks with a core solo chip, for volume sales.

This is something people need to realize once in a while. Its not about CPU and RAM. A Droid Incredible can have an 8 megapixel camera, and the photo quality may be not be the best people expect. An iPhone 4 can have 5 megapixels in a sensor and people are delighted with the quality!
Specs are nice, but learning that it actually WORKS, is something other.
My HTC Incredible came with a 73 page manual. . . I get loads of pop-ups asking me if I want to do this or that. . . They disappear while I'm trying to figure out which course of action I want to take. . . The 73 page manual doesn't mention them. That's why it's not "Magical." it's "Incredible."

I highly doubt they would killl it off. I think they'd drop the price on it which would make it even more desirable for standard consumers with a budget. Sort of a, why get the mini when I could just pay a bit more for the iMac 17" kind of thing.

They did at WWDC '04 (when Tiger was introduced) with slogans like "Redmond, Start Your Photocopiers" and the word "Longhorn" in the Spotlight search field. ;)
Yea I remember watching that one. I thought that was pretty funny!:D

I went on a bit of a spending spree the last couple of weeks...
First about 2.5 weeks ago I went to the mall and bought:
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm187/jmorx3/IMG_0548.jpg?t=1290657509
All at Pacsun
And this at Urban Outfitters
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm187/jmorx3/IMG_0546.jpg?t=1290657625
Then a little over a week ago I went to a different mall and bought:
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm187/jmorx3/IMG_0545.jpg?t=1290657691
The boyfriend jeans, which are now my favorite jeans ever, were only $17 and the sweatshirt which is very comfortable was $30 and the t shirts were like two for $25 or something. These are all from this pretty new store that I like called Garage.
And today I bought more stuff from PacSun:
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm187/jmorx3/IMG_0551.jpg?t=1290657809
I spent a little over a hundred for two sweaters, a sweatshirt, a tee, and a ring. But I got $50 worth of PacLoot to use later so it worked out well.
And I also went to Delias, where I don't normally ever shop:
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm187/jmorx3/IMG_0549.jpg?t=1290657933
Got the two sweaters for $60 as they were originally $40 each but everything was BOGO 1/2 off, then I found that AWESOME t-shirt which cost only SIX dollars. I was very happy, then I also got $25 off a future purchase so overall its been an expensive few weeks.
Forgot-I also bought a sweatshirt from my school and ordered another sweatshirt and sweatpants from the soccer team clothing.
I'm pretty much broke now until I get paid again, but it was worth it as I badly needed new clothes for a while now, but all the rest of my money from my paychecks will be going toward Christmas gifts and future car upgrades and gas.

I agree that the lower end 17" iMac is a better deal than the mini. Now that iMac is Core 2 Duo, the Academic $899 17" iMac is a mini killer config.

- remove the click wheel
- extend the screen to fill up the front face
- slap in a multi touch display
- 220GB for movie watching & games, lotsa games
;)
This is an iPod Tocuh, I like that Apple keep the Classic. Arguably it's the product which helped them become the company they are today. Would be a shame to see it die. Also I know a few people who are die hard Classic fans. They dont want games, touch screens and all that nonsense.
Whats wrong with just having a simple mp3 Player?

Why Merom (Obviously). Honestly, Apple have been using a laptop processor in all their machines since January (until the Mac Pro). because only the Yonah was available.
Would you honestly be happy spend a shed load of money on a 23" Imac that STILL has a laptop processor? Come on, Conroe will be in the new iMacs
Gawd, I hope so.

The gist of the statements currently coming from UN-mandated coalition members seems to be that once that "all necessary measures" have been taken to protect Libyans under attack by Gaddafi loyalists, the coalition military will simply seek to maintain that protection. Any political progess from that point on will have to be negotiated between Gaddafi, the Arab League, and the UN.
It will be important to get the Arab League onboard, but just now they are pretty distracted with internal instability and rarely agree on anything anyways. They neither want to keep Gaddafi around nor show him the door.

I remember playing on an XBox soon after it came out, it had Halo and a Hard drive, which made it better hardware-wise than the PS2 and it had a really good exclusive game (though GTA which is on the PS2 is better). So I don't think the XBox was too bad really. I don't think comparisons can be made with the Zune this time.

Not sure who mentioned the Switcheasy cases first but thank you. I ordered two color cases on Monday night, they shipped from San Francisco on Tuesday and I received them in Maryland today.
Fit is nice and the screen guard looks and feels great.
not to give myself credit...but I did :P and yes, agreed! Love the case, and the screen protector is nice!

will final cut express get an update too?
I am guessing yes. If it is kept at all.
Then a similar move with Logic
But I am curious about the rest of the suite and the remaining missing features from Shake
